iExec Tokenomics: New Ways to Use & Earn RLC

In 2025, iExec is expanding the utility and impact of the RLC token.

Tokenomics Week introduced new mechanisms designed to boost circulation, deepen engagement, and unlock real use cases across the ecosystem.

From simplified token usage to circular revenue models and new staking, each mechanism is designed to give RLC new roles across the ecosystem, not just sit in wallets.

Here’s a recap of what was introduced and how these updates open new opportunities for builders, users, and the token economy.

RLC is the utility token that powers the iExec network

It’s used to access computing resources, secure off-chain computation, and monetize digital assets like data, code, and AI models.

The RLC token has a fixed supply of ~86 million tokens. No unlocks. No inflation. As iExec expands its ecosystem and rolls out new mechanisms like vouchers, incentive programs, and other initiatives introduced during Tokenomics Week, more RLC has entered circulation. This reflects a shift from holding to using, driving a token economy built on utility and value creation.

The iExec Voucher offers a simplified way for developers to access iExec tools using preloaded RLC, removing the need for manual token handling or gas fee management. Fixed prices give builders predictable costs from development to deployment.

Using a voucher means being fully integrated into the iExec builder ecosystem, with access to premium technical support, visibility, investor connections, and opportunities across the broader iExec network.

Builders use RLC to run their apps in private TEE environments. As users engage, revenue flows back, rewarding both builders and the users in the community.

This revenue sharing model aligns incentives across the ecosystem, rewarding both development and usage. This is what a circular token economy looks like.

Starting with a new mechanism for the iExec Privacy Pass.

Privacy Pass is an iExec program that lets users earn RLC by receiving emails without ever revealing their address. Later this year, a new feature will offer boosted rewards on selected campaigns to users based on how much RLC they hold in their wallet. It’s a way to give more value to active holders while promoting the use of privacy-first tools.

This staking initiative is planned as a short-term program designed to connect holding, using, and earning RLC in the ecosystem.

The Builder Incentive Program offers further rewards for developers who build privacy-preserving applications on iExec. The more users engage with their dApps, and the more data that app protects, the more RLC the builder earns. It is a direct incentive to create a more user-centric ecosystem.

This program complements the recently announced 1M RLC Ecosystem Fund, which provides grants and support for high-potential projects building with iExec.

Builders are encouraged to keep scaling and protecting data throughout their app’s lifecycle, driving long-term RLC utility across the ecosystem with continued use of iExec.

Looking Ahead

These mechanisms are designed to make RLC more usable, accessible, and rewarding. Together, they reinforce the foundation for a more sustainable and impactful iExec economy, where RLC is exchanged via real usage, incentives, and ecosystem growth.

⚡️In 2025, RLC’s role shifts from being held to being used. Its value comes from what you do with it.
